Longer comments on the "O"?

When did the "O" start allowing longer comments? Where was it announced and how many characters are allowable?

    They might as well just make it unlimited since some people just continue on over and over again. Unless it's something compelling I don't even read past the first two sentences of most peoples long drawn out diatribes especially when they are know for bullsweat.

    You get further into their diatribes than I do. I just ignore certain posters' comments unless a subsequent comment in response piques my curiosity.
