Subversion of voters' rights?

KING5 just played a commercial urging people to vote. There was an explanation of how to fill out the mail-in ballot, and then, right in the middle of that, the voice-over asked people not to write in "frivolous candidates' names" because it slows down the counting process. Damn! Does anybody besides me think that that is an attempted subversion of the rights of voters to choose their own candidates if they want to protest the ones provided by the PTBs?
