As for why I like the side-by-side tabs capability, it makes it possible to follow comments back and forth from one page of comments on a tab to another page of comments on another tab without having to use the browser back and forth arrows on a single tab, in order to refresh previous and subsequent pages (and thereby losing comments that have been deleted). As I said, PITA.....
If the shoe fits, wear it: "... in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt." -- Bertrand Russell
"There's no firewall for stupidity." -- Mike Hamilton
"I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said." -- William F. Buckley, Jr.
"There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true." -- Søren Kierkegaard

Disqus redux
I've discovered that it doesn't appear to be possible to easily open successive pages of comments in side-by-side tabs in a browser window..... this torques me. In fact, for one article I'm experimenting with, so far I haven't been able to quickly view more than the 20 oldest comments in two side-by-side-tabs. Right-clicking the "Next" button to open a new tab simply re-opens the first 10 comments. I've managed to find a tedious work-around, but it's a real PITA.
