"Tobeck, 58, is unemployed. Her last job, as liaison for the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners, ended in December 2008, and she has been unsuccessful in her job search."

Well, WOW! There is the meat and potatoes of this race! Corinne Tobeck, formerly employed by Lewis County, was laid off during the budget cutbacks, but as can be expected by low grade journalists, they don't tell the whole story. The good part is that the readers ripped them a new ass.
Why not mention THIS about DeBolt?
From the Seattle PI, circa 2004:
"Legislators often say that what's best for their bosses is best for their districts. Consider Rep. Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis. The House Republican leader also serves as "external relations" officer for the TransAlta energy company. Last year, DeBolt co-sponsored a bill that made small changes to an assortment of tax breaks, aiming to clarify previous legislation. The broadly supported package included a tax break for the Centralia Steam Plant, owned by TransAlta."It was more technical corrections," to avoid violating interstate commerce laws than it was a new tax exemption, said DeBolt, who said he had helped push through the original tax break. TransAlta employs 835 in his district, DeBolt said, and the bill "ties (TransAlta) down" to buying coal from the local mine."
By the way. TransAlta let over 600 workers go. In the mine.
Get the picture Zero?
Someone write those buttwipes a letter about their lack or journalistic ability. I can't publish for another 28 days.

The Representative from TransAlta does not represent me very well, even though I live in his district. Tobeck's criticisms of DeBolt are spot on. The coal fired plant operated by his employer receives a 5 million dollar tax break that DeBolt arranged and pushed through, despite the fact that it's the largest source of sulfur dioxide and mercury pollution in the state, and it alone produces 10% of Washington's CO2 emissions. TransAlta is a multinational coal company with over 3 billion dollars in revenue, and more than one legislator in their pocket, Richard DeBolt is just our local company stooge.
It's a pity that the opposition can't seem to field credible candidates, because I'd like to see my entire state delegation put out to pasture. Alexander unopposed? Never a real campaign against "God tells me how to vote" Swecker? No serious party effort to unseat DeBolt? Time and again the Democrats cede the 20th to the Republicans without a fight, and it makes me wish for a strong populist third party more committed to positive change than mere cold calculations of party power.

Unfortunately many people who vote republican are actually voting against their own best interests. The bush tax cuts that are sunseting and may or may not be renewed, benefit almost exclusively the wealthiest Americans.Lewis County is not a wealthy district but has "conservative" social values. It is hard to sell abortion rights,a clean environment, gay marriage and social welfare in such a district.(Even though it has been my experience that there are a lot of welfare recipients in Lewis County.) Higher education level & critical evaluation of current events rather than acceptance of the spin by large media organizations might also help sway this district but not anytime soon,I fear.

NWSSCS Today 01:18 PM
Representative DeBolt is out of touch with reality while Corinne Tobeck is working to understand the basin-wide issues associated with seasonal Chehalis River basin rainstorms and their resulting floods.
Mr. DeBolt and other elected officials in Lewis County have contributed to periodic, catastrophic flood damage with their continued lack of adherence to local, state and federal regulations associated with land use prctices, especially those in the forestlands, wetlands and floodplains.
Mr. DeBolt's solution to Chehalis River flood-related damage is ineffective, costly and will place more Chehalis River basin residents and businesses directly in harm's way as the two proposed Chehalis River dams will only retain a maximum of 5% of the storm water during very specific, Willapa Hills'-located storms. Mr. DeBolt's support for dams that are only closed during storm events will do absolutely nothing to provide even flows throughout summer months as they will not retain water most of the year. These dams (designed without fish passage) will also kill recently born salmon and trout that are still in the river's gravel when the reservoir is created during storm events; these young fish will not be able to survive the high water pressure and the lack of oxygen-rich moving water.
I've found Ms Tobeck to be truthfull while I cannot say the same for Mr. DeBolt. My wife and I are voting for Corinne Tobeck to be our 20th District Representative

I agree. I would rather not re-elect DeBolt, but the other option isn't very appealing. Hopefully, Tobeck finds a job soon. I've been unemployed since 09.

It's unfortunate and in really bad taste that The Olympian chose to focus an Ms. Tobeck's current status as unemplyed, especially given that many very qualified and civic-minded citizens are out of work these days due to no fault of their own.
The 20th Legislative District would be best served by Corinne Tobeck instead of by a special interst's (Canadian-owned TransAlta) bought and paid for "fully employed", Richard DeBolt.

I'd read a recent story that suggests "older" unemployed workers who've lost their jobs in this recession might find themselves permanently unemployed. "Older" means over 55, young enough to still have to work, but with a limited work future.
You're right that the implication that Ms. Tobeck is an unemployed slacker looking for a public job is sleazy journalism on the part of the Olympian.

You're surprised about the "sleazy journalism" from the Zero? I'm surprised that you're surprised!! The paper hasn't practiced "journalism" in a long time but instead has become little more than a supermarket tabloid. The frequent snide sideswipes against honorable citizens are unconscionable and should be protested against at every turn.
