JetBlue giving away round-trip tickets to leave the country if your presidential candidate loses

Whether you come back or not is up to you.

By Deb Hopewell, October 5, 2012

“If (presidential candidate X) wins the election, I’m leaving the country!”

The declarations have already begun, on Facebook posts and Twitter feeds across the country.

How many times have you heard this … say, every four years? JetBlue has heard it, too, and figured it had the ring of a great marketing campaign.  It’s giving away 1006 round-trip tickets (that’s 2012 seats) to its international destinations (mostly in the Caribbean) for voters who wake up Nov. 7 on the losing side.
“On November 6th, America will elect the next U.S. president. If things don't go your way, don't worry. Here's your chance to get a free flight out of the country with JetBlue,” says the airline’s Election Protection 2012 site.  “Participate in our election protection poll to enter. And remember if you change your mind you can always come back. Or not. It's a free country.”

The poll doesn’t require you to choose a candidate, rather you sign in as a Democrat or Republican, and choose your destination preference. A real-time “heat map” on the site shows the percentage of participants’ party affiliation (it’s presently skewing slightly blue). It also tracks the party split among its 21 destinations: Grand Cayman seems to be a popular GOP choice, while Dems are presently favoring Costa Rica.
Turks & Caicos? Well, that seems to be an escape that appeals equally to both sides of the aisle.
