Here’s another reason Ted Cruz is right to fear the death of the Republican Party
By Pat Cunningham, October 31, 2013
One of the many funny things about Sen. Ted Cruz is that he can be linked in two different ways to the possible demise of his Republican Party — one as a prophet of doom, and the other as a cause of it.
Allow me to explain.
The first time I had cause to pay attention to Cruz was shortly after last year’s elections, when he said this:
If Republicans do not do better in the Hispanic community, in a few short years Republicans will no longer be the majority party in our state…
In not too many years, Texas could switch from being all Republican to all Democrat. If that happens, no Republican will ever again win the White House. New York and California are for the foreseeable future unalterably Democrat. If Texas turns bright blue, the Electoral College math is simple. We won’t be talking about Ohio, we won’t be talking about Florida or Virginia, because it won’t matter. If Texas is bright blue, you can’t get to two-seventy electoral votes. The Republican Party would cease to exist. We would become like the Whig Party. Our kids and grandkids would study how this used to be a national political party. “They had Conventions, they nominated Presidential candidates. They don’t exist anymore.”And now, a prominent Democrat SUGGESTS that Cruz himself might become a nail in the coffin of the GOP:
If Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) claims the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) warned Wednesday, the GOP will have effectively destroyed itself.
“If I didn’t care so much about our country, I would hope he would get the Republican nomination for president, because that would mean the end of the Republican Party,” Reid told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.
“He stands for everything America doesn’t,” Reid added...................................................................................................................................
