The Alt-Right Is Trying to Trick Hillary Supporters Into 'Voting' By Text

Over two-thirds of Donald Trump voters believe voter fraud occurs often compared to less than a third of Hillary supporters, even though the numbers say that voting fraud is rare. That's not stopping the constant cries of voter fraud from the right, despite the fact that the first person to be arrested for voting twice is a Trump supporter. Now, Trump supporters are trying to rig the election (hmmmmmm) in a new way: By tricking Hillary Clinton supporters so that their vote doesn't count.

Theoretical physicist Robert McNees found several examples of promoted tweets - many of which appear to target minority voters, with one entirely in Spanish - that, at first glance, look like ads from the Hillary campaign. "Avoid the line. Vote from home. Text 'Hillary' to 59925," reads one.



Let's be perfectly, 100% clear here: You can't vote via text. You can't vote online. But it's 2016, and considering you can do practically anything via phone or computer now, it's possible for a Hillary supporter to see these ads and think they're legit. In other words, it's an entirely fucked-up thing to do.

Initially, when McNees reported the ads, Twitter told him that they did not violate their terms of service, which isn't surprising considering Twitter's blatant inability to handle misconduct on their platform. Good ol' Jack himself did end up responding to McNees, telling him that he's "not sure how this got past us" and assuring him it would be taken care of.

Luckily, Hillary's campaign is already on top of it, because when you text 59925, you get this reply:

"The ad you saw was not approved by iVisionMobile OR Hillary For America in any way. To opt-in to the real HFA list, text HFA to 47246. Reply STOP to cancel."

However, just in case more nefarious Trumpeters try to pull this stunt with another set of digits, let's shout it from the rooftops, scream it to the world, sing it in our sleep: YOU CANNOT VOTE VIA TEXT OR ONLINE. Cool? Cool.
