COMMENTS:
* I am always confounded by the American people. They claim to despise the #$%$s and charlatans in Congress yet they re-elect them election after election. I suppose my congressman is a #$%$ and a charlatan but yours at least steals for your own district. The American voter is to blame for the current train wreck in Washington, not the elected people. They simply are working the system. Now you all can get back to Dancing with the Stars and the Kardashians.
* Why not just go all the way and denounce those idiots? They are absolutely dysfunctional and they are pulling the thread out of the sweater because it's fun and produces dramatic destruction, and they don't know a thing about how to knit. They will have us living in caves again if we don't stop them. They reject science, which they sit on their #$%$ benefiting from, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, and of course, the Pope, because he speaks the truth, and that is their worst enemy.
* There is so much descriptive hyperbole in politics that I have no idea what or whom to believe. So I concentrate on forming and following my own clear beliefs. Then I use these to try to apply to "our" politicians - which is one heck of a job telling the liars from the sincere, as well as, understanding what politicians say - rarely do they speak clearly! Most times I want to say to politicians: "Please repeat that a little more slowly backwards, so I can misunderstand you a little more incorrectly"!
* We need sweeping reforms throughout Congress. There is a reason Congress is at a 17% approval rating.
* This is how throughout our political history when a party becomes more about ruling than governing is when people desert to the other party. These Tea Party and hard Right evangelicals in the GOP are going to be left behind for generation of voters unless they learn to compromise.
* I am a proud Democrat/Republican, however I promise I will listen to and consider the ideas and suggestions from my Republican/Democratic friends and colleagues with the goal to working together for the betterment of my country and its people. How hard would it be to just do that!?

Boehner unloads on the ‘false prophets’ in his party that have made his job a nightmare
By Maxwell Tani, September 27, 2015
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) did not attempt to disguise his displeasure with the hardliners in his own caucus that claimed credit for his stunning resignation.
"Face The Nation" host John Dickerson on Sunday asked Boehner about the conservative House coalition with which Boehner was constantly feuding, and whether they had unrealistic expectations.
"Absolutely they're unrealistic!" Boehner blurted out. "But the Bible says beware of false prophets. And there are people out there spreading noise about how much can get done."
Boehner proceeded to list some of his accomplishments — including reducing the federal deficit and stopping major proposals to increase taxes. He noted that all were passed "over the last four and a half years with a Democrat president" — and that all were "voted against by my most conservative members because it wasn't good enough."
"Really? This is the part I really don't understand," he said.
One conservative member of Congress, in particular, came into Boehner's crosshairs Sunday — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
When Dickerson asked whether Cruz was a one of the "false prophets" to whom Boehner had referred, the speaker smiled and referred to comments he made at a fundraiser in Colorado earlier this summer. There, he reportedly dismissed Cruz as a "jackass."
Cruz was one of the chief architects of the 2013 government shutdown over the Affordable Care Act, as he lobbied many conservative members of the House to oppose the legislation that funded the federal government. Boehner referred to this effort on Sunday, calling the attempt a "fool's errand." And he suggested those behind it knew they were leading a futile effort.
On Friday, Boehner announced his intention to resign from Congress at the end of October. Though he said he had been planning to step down for quite some time, many saw the timing as a bid to avert another government shutdown.
This time, House conservatives have revolted over funding for Planned Parenthood, which they are seeking to defund over a series of undercover videos detailing the organization's involvement in abortion-related fetal-tissue research.
Despite his criticism of members of his caucus, the speaker stopped short of labeling his caucus as dysfunctional.
"I wouldn't call it dysfunction," Boehner said. "Disagreement, yes."

* Sanders is the only candidate of either party who does not have the stench of a billionaire wafting about him(her)
* Stench is a mild word compared to the putrification exuding from the Koch brothers and their ilk!! The way they buy and pay for politicians is enough to make a maggot puke. It make one feel as if they had been eaten by a coyote and defecated over a cliff!
* Holy ****, a maggot puke? That's really bad, it's no wonder I call the so-called GOP the REPUKEBLICANS. The sure make me want to puke, but do understand I'm not the maggot. When a person really stop and think about it, what have the Repukeblican party done for every day hard working Americans. Sanders jabs Koch brothers over Walker exit
By Bradford Richardson, September 27, 2015
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful, on Sunday took a jab at the Koch brothers over their support of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who dropped out of the GOP race last week.
Sanders said money controls politics, despite the well-funded Walker's exit from the race.
"I wish the Koch brothers would say, ‘Well, gee, now we can take the $900 million that we planned to spend in this campaign supporting right-wing Republicans… and we’re not going to spend it,’” Sanders said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday. “But, John, I’m not sure that the Koch brothers learned that lesson.”
The self-identified Democratic socialist took Jeb Bush to task for saying people vote for “free stuff.”
“Well, let’s be clear that what Jeb Bush is proposing are massive tax breaks for the richest people in this country, while he will fight to cut social security and Medicare and programs that tens of millions of elderly people and middle-class people and working-class people depend upon,” Sanders said.
“I happen to believe, John, that in a democratic, civilized society, all people should be entitled to healthcare as a right – yeah, I do believe that.”
Bush had described the Democratic Party platform as buying voters with "free stuff."
Sanders also called for public colleges and universities to be tuition free and said the wealthy will have to pay “substantially more in taxes.”

"... Republicans are trying to make it easier to shut down the government and harder for millions of women to access the lifesaving health care they need."

COMMENTS:
* ... The Republicans don't need incriminating evidence. All they need is somebody shouting a lie at the top of their lungs and they are off to the races with it. How many investigations into Benghazi have found no wrong-doing and yet, the Republicans are still investigating it because they heard somebody shouting the lie.
* Problem is there was no 'unscrupulous professional'. PP is allowed BY LAW to provide tissue to medical researchers and get reimbursed for providing that tissue. Didn't you know? Oh, right, the CMP 'expose' purposely left out that fact to lure gullible and clueless right wingers into fits of outrage. How sadly predictable.
* Actually the scale of lying and propagandizing is much heavier on the repub side, according to facts. But then again, right wingers never bother with facts.
* There is no infanticide at PP. No one is pro-abortion. The right however is pro-forced birth. So much for liberty and freedom. Right wing hypocrisy knows no bounds.
* Repubicans have already said they are interested in defunding PP whether the videos show anything illegal or not.
* Sure - but without the videos, they can't /won't. Which is why an investigation that disproves the videos is beneficial.

Pelosi blasts GOP plans for panel to probe Planned Parenthood
By Ben Kamisar, September 26, 2015
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is bashing House Republicans’ plans to create a select committee focused on investigating Planned Parenthood after the release of controversial videos about the group’s handling of fetal tissue.
“The Speaker’s resignation has not yet broken Republicans’ fevered obsession with shutting down government at the expense of women’s health,” she said in a statement Saturday, noting Friday’s news that Speaker John Boehner will depart after October.
“Make no mistake: House Republicans have renewed their war on women's health… Hard-working families deserve better than a taxpayer-funded Republican Committee fixated on dismantling women’s health.”
She noted that one in five women use Planned Parenthood’s services each year for healthcare, including cancer screenings.
“With this Committee, Republicans are trying to make it easier to shut down the government and harder for millions of women to access the lifesaving health care they need.”
Her statement follows the GOP’s weekly address, where Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said that the House would create the new select committee.
Funding for Planned Parenthood has become one of the most contentious issues after an anti-abortion rights group began to release surreptitiously-filmed videos from the group alleging impropriety.
Critics argue that the group should not receive any federal funding because it performs abortions and that the videos show the group discussing selling fetal tissue and organs. But the group’s supporters have argued that the videos have been selectively edited in order to push false claims.
Pelosi compared the committee to the other recently-created House committee that’s investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks. Democrats have accused House Republicans of using that body to politicize the investigation and hurt Hillary Clinton’s presidential ambitions.

Scott Walker fell out of Koch brothers' grace, then race: Darcy cartoon
By Jeff Darcy, September 25, 2015

Scott Walker sat on an immigration wall. Scott Walker had a great fall. And all the Koch brothers' dollars wouldn't put poor Scott Walker's campaign back together again.
After going from being the front-runner to being a candidate for the next "Not So Happy Hour Debate," Scott Walker announced Monday that he was suspending his campaign, stating:
"Today, I believe that I am being called to lead by helping to clear the race so that a positive conservative message can rise to the top of the field. With that in mind, I will suspend my campaign immediately.
I encourage other Republican presidential candidates to consider doing the same so the voters can focus on a limited number of candidates who can offer a positive conservative alternative to the current front-runner."
That sounds far more noble than saying, "I'm dropping out because I've run out of money after falling out of favor with the Koch brothers, flip-flopping, making embarrassing gaffes and being a bore in the year of boorishness"
Back in April, David Koch was predicting Scott Walker would be the Republican party's nominee and receive he and his brother's backing.
The New York Times had reported that while speaking at a fundraiser for the state of New York Republican party, David Koch said, " When the primaries are over and Scott Walker gets the nomination" he and his brother would be supporting him.
Walker is anti-union and was at the time pro-immigration reform. Two positions that fit perfectly with the Koch brothers Libertarian agenda.
But Walker reportedly fell out of favor with the billionaire brothers when he flip-flopped on immigration, including trying to out-trump Donald Trump by calling for a wall to be built on the Canadian border.
Had Walker not walked himself into the Koch brothers' dog house, he might have had a storm shelter flush with money to weather the Trump tornado, like Jeb Bush has been able to do with his campaign war chest.
Gaffes, like saying Reagan's greatest foreign policy achievement was his victory over the National Air Traffic Controllers union, also sent Walker's campaign crashing to the ground.
Topping it all off, in the debates, the Wisconsin cheesehead came off like a thin slice of Swiss cheese with one too many gaping holes.
Marco Rubio and John Kasich will likely divvy up the remaining crumbs of Walker's cheese in the race to be the alternative to Trump.

* Carly had a solid debate performance, no doubt. The reason she had that solid performance is because she's spent the last several years - ever since she got rocked in the CA Senate election by 10 points - studying up on history and foreign policy. Will Carly Fiorina’s surge be undermined by her HP record?
Carly Fiorina is doing well in polls. As Donald Trump saw his support drastically diminish following the second GOP debate, the businesswoman swiftly rose to No. 2 with 15 percent of Republican support.
But critics are skeptical that her success will persist. The reason? Her dismal tenure as CEO of Hewlett-Packard from 1999 to 2005, during which 30,000 employees were laid off.
In 2010, Mrs. Fiorina ran for Senate in California, against Democratic incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer. Leading up to the election, Fiorina was performing promisingly. Most polls showed she was within one or two points of Boxer, and some earlier ones even indicated she was ahead.
Then came the attack ads.
“Fiorina outsourced jobs to China. And while Californians lost their jobs, Fiorina tripled her salary, bought a million-dollar yacht, and five corporate jets,” the narrator in an ad released in mid-September of 2010 says of Fiorina’s legacy as CEO of the Fortune 500 tech company. Audio then cuts to a soundbite of Fiorina from a previous interview. “I’m proud of what I did at HP,” she says.
Fiorina lost the race by 10 points. Now as she surges in the 2016 presidential election, her corporate performance is once again the subject of scrutiny.
In an essay published on Medium Tuesday, her Deputy Campaign Manager Sarah Isgur Flores offered 10 points that defend Fiorina’s record as HP’s CEO. Among them were the claim that “Carly saved 80,000 jobs and HP grew to 150,000 jobs by 2005” and “Carly doubled revenues to more than $80 billion, tripled innovation, quadrupled cash flow and more than quadrupled the growth rate. HP went from a Fortune 28 to a Fortune 11 company.”
And yet, in 2009, Fiorina was named the 19th worst CEO of all time by Portfolio (now Upstart Business Journal).
“Mrs. Fiorina tries to obscure these harsh realities with a blizzard of her own ‘facts,’” writes New York Times columnist Steven Rattner in an op-ed. “On the campaign trail, for example, she speaks of having doubled her company’s revenues. However, most of that increase came from adding in Compaq’s sales, which is a misleading way to calculate revenue growth.”
In regards to her added jobs, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2010 that it was likely Fiorani created jobs overseas instead of adding jobs in the U.S.
But Fiorina isn’t without defenders in the industry.
"The stock took a beating, but she was absolutely correct," venture capitalist Tom Perkins told the LA Times in 2010. He had been a member of the HP board that fired her. "The merger was a brilliant move. Look where HP is now – the biggest computer company in the world."
Fiorina’s leadership at HP was the peak of her corporate career. Since she was fired, she has not run another publicly traded company. Despite that it’s the only substantial executive experience she can present to her voters, it certainly hasn’t been the highlight of her campaign speeches. In fact, she rarely brings it up.
Perhaps, critics say, this is because the facts simply speak for themselves.

COMMENTS:
* For being a party with a strong stance on the government staying out of the lives of Americans, they sure forget about this when it comes to women's rights, the LGBT, abortion funding , religion in school, religious tolerance only for Christians & everything thing else that are fundamental or religious based issues, which shouldn't even be in the political arena anyway. Why do you get to pick & choose what the government can stick it's nose into?
* When have the Democrats even showed any real sign of trying to take away your guns? We brought to the negotiation table banning assault rifles & large magazines, since neither can be used to hunt for food & lesser dangerous guns can be used for protection. Obviously the overwhelming fear of gun owners worrying their entire gun collections would be taken away from them, gave Democrats the idea to drop this issue & request the minimal. Background checks for every gun owner. Mandatory. Even at event shows. I believe the reason people are saying the Republican party are losing popularity is because it shows in the polls. Democrats now have more supporters. The Republican party is becoming way too intrusive into personal lives. Cantor: Boehner critics weren't honest
By Ben Kamisar, September 26, 2015
Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is blasting the GOP's conservative wing as unrealistic, a day after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced he would resign from Congress.
“The tragedy here is that these voices have not been honest with our fellow conservatives. They have not been honest about what can be accomplished when your party controls Congress, but not the White House,” Cantor writes in a New York Times piece published Saturday.
Cantor (R-Va.), who served as majority leader until his stunning defeat in a primary election last year, says conservatives blamed GOP leaders for failing to “enact into law a conservative vision for government, without compromise," instead of President Obama.
“As a result we missed chances to achieve important policies for the good of the country.”
Boehner stunned Washington on Friday by announcing that he’ll resign from Congress in October. But for his 2014 primary loss, Cantor likely would have been a top contender to succeed Boehner for the speakership.
Furious Boehner allies blame the caucus’ more conservative members for essentially forcing him out after years of putting their agenda above the party’s more realistic goals.
Cantor says he agrees with conservative Republicans that the party should fight, but argues they should “fight smartly.”
“I have never heard of a football team that won by throwing only Hail Mary passes, yet that is what is being demanded of Republican leaders today. Victory on the field is more often a result of three yards and a cloud of dust,” he writes.
“In politics this means incremental progress, winning hearts and minds before winning the vote — the kind of governance Ronald Reagan perfected.”
Instead of infighting over strategy, Cantor is calling for the party to come together ahead of the 2016 presidential race and “lay out a positive, honest governing platform to take the country forward.”
“This is what my friend John Boehner fought for, and this is what we must continue to fight for to honor his dedication to Congress and the American people,” he says.

People are agreeing more now that the LGBT deserves the same rights as everyone else in America. More Americans are becoming less religious. Atheism is growing. Most views by Republicans are outdated. They want to remain in the past & not realistically look at how America is changing. Give us a break! "Gay" Doritos are the target of the "religious-right outrage machine". Just ignore 'em, you fools!

Huckabee and Christian Right Wage War on Pro-Gay Doritos
Doritos decided to go gay for a day, and the right wing just couldn't handle it.
By Asawin Suebsaeng, September 26, 2015
Doritos is gay now.
Last week, Frito-Lay (the snack food and chip division of PepsiCo) unveiled a limited edition bag of Doritos Rainbows, to celebrate gay pride and raise money for LGBT youth. The Rainbows were mailed to anyone who donated at least $10 to It Gets Better, gay-rights activist Dan Savage’s nonprofit.
The pro-gay tortilla chips quickly sold out, and Doritos (a sponsor of the upcoming pride parade in Dallas on September 20) asked their followers to show their support for the LGBT community using the hashtag “#BOLDANDBETTER.”
PepsiCo has been voicing corporate support for gay rights for years, and many of their products, including Doritos, are on the Human Rights Campaign’s buyer’s guide. Still, this latest, rather innocuous development triggered the religious-right outrage machine powered by the usual suspects.
“The latest assault on Christian values comes from a company you’d never guess,” wrote One Million Moms director Monica Cole, who apparently knows nothing about the company. “Not only is Frito-Lay promoting homosexuality among teens, but it is backing the agenda of [Dan Savage,] one of the most anti-Christian bullies in America…Contact Frito-Lay and urge them to drop its promotion of anti-Christian bigotry.”
Likeminded consumers made their indignation known on social media, and some workers at a Texas Frito-Lay plant reportedly refused in protest to work on the line producing the colorful rainbow chips.
This is all dogmatic par for the anti-gay course. One Million Moms and American Family Association are upset because of course they are. They’re in the business of lashing out at everything and anyone who publicly endorses The Homosexual Agenda. It would be weird if they weren’t angry at the bags of flamboyantly gay junk-food.
But surely no presidential candidate would waste his or her time on this, objecting pettily to queer doritos. Surely, that would be beneath the dignity of someone running for the highest office in the land, right? Right??
No.
That’s because Mike Huckabee, prominent Kim Davis cheerleader and anti-Beyoncé combatant, is running for president. “It is beyond me to understand how a responsible corporation would think that partnering with someone who spews the vicious vitriol that Savage does would be worthy of your corporate contributions,” the Republican presidential candidate wrote in a letter. Huckabee also urged Frito-Lay to cut ties with “hate groups” like It Gets Better.
"If good ol’ Mike Huckabee thinks the path to the White House runs through a bag of chips and some mouthy faggot's advice column… he’s more deluded than we thought," Savage wrote in an email to The Daily Beast, responding to Huckabee's letters. "But he’s not really running for president, of course, he’s running to sell books and get his face on TV, so he can go back to fleecing the rubes."
Over the years, Savage and Huckabee have had nothing but unkind words for each other. They did however manage to have one polite conversation about gay marriage on a 2005 episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. Here’s an excerpt:
Huckabee: Well, I think that the issue is one of doing what's best for the kids. And if taking care of those children, and it should be, then I think it is of less consequence, the sexual orientation of the couple, than it is that the children's welfare be concerned. And the parents who chose to take care of them are financially responsible.
Savage: So then you're pro-gay marriage?
Huckabee: No, I'm not pro-gay marriage, Dan.
Savage: Well, I have a seven-year-old adopted son with my partner of ten — almost 11 — years. If I were to drop dead tomorrow, most of the property is mine, my partner would inherit very little of it because of the tax laws that disfavor him because he's not my legal spouse. And he would be impoverished, and also raising this child and the next one that we're adopting. So if you believe in protecting children, I think you should be for gay marriage.
Now that marriage equality in America is, thanks to the Supreme Court, a settled issue and the law of the land, veteran culture warriors like Huckabee are free to move on to other pressing issues such as limited-edition Doritos.
A Frito-Lay spokeswoman did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment on Huckabee’s hot take.

Fiorina Spins a New Lie, and Her Issues With Truth Look Compulsive
By Eric Schmeltzer, September 24, 2015
Late last week and over the weekend, Carly Fiorina was caught telling the same lie to FOX News' Sean Hannity, and Chris Wallace. On their shows, Fiorina maintained that even though Hewlett Packard goods were sold in Iran while she was CEO of the company, the SEC had performed a "thorough investigation" that "proved" she and other executives were cleared of having any knowledge of the matter.
Except, as I wrote on this site, that isn't at all true. FactCheck.org decided to look into the matter, and ruled that Fiorina was not telling the truth. In fact, FactCheck asked Fiorina's campaign for any SEC documents that cleared her of any knowledge of HP's Iran dealings, and the campaign couldn't provide a single one.
Now, Fiorina has been caught telling a lie, about the very same matter, again. This time it was on Iowa radio.
In an interview, host Simon Conway asked how Fiorina could claim that she didn't know about HP's deals with Iran, when the company named Redington Gulf, a Dubai-based company that sold HP's goods in Iran, HP's "Wholesaler of the Year."
"That was after my time. So I actually am not aware of that. I mean, apparently they were named that, but I don't know that. You know, it was after my time there. I can't speak to that," Fiorina said.
Interesting. First, Redington Gulf was named Wholesaler of the Year for HP in 2003, when Carly Fiorina was very much the CEO.
Second, this is a totally different answer than the one she delivered a week ago, to Chris Wallace.
The answer is, of course, one does not unless they have a problem with telling the truth.
This fits a pattern that is growing, of Carly Fiorina embellishing facts until they're not true anymore, and now, changing stories between interviews, to give herself an air of innocence. And, she does it even after getting caught in a lie on a particular subject (Iran), knowing full well that she'll likely be caught again.
This raises a serious question - is Carly Fiorina a compulsive liar?
Compulsive lying is a symptom of a larger disorder, according to psychologists, in which a person tells lies without a feeling of guilt, often to make themselves look better. One characteristic of a compulsive liar is that, "The stories told are not entirely improbable and often have some element of truth. They are not a manifestation of delusion or some broader type of psychosis."
Indeed, Fiorina often does take some element of truth, and embellishes it, or adds falsities on to it.
Sure, all politicians engage in puffery, Democrats and Republicans. Heck, Al Gore still can't get out from under his comments about the creation of the Internet. But there are two differences, here.
First, Fiorina presents herself as a non-politician, a simple citizen outside of the "political class," even though she was a top advisor to John McCain, was Fundraising Chair for the RNC, and ran for Senate in California, just five years ago.
Second, in such a short period of time, Fiorina has told a string of embellishments and lies, with such apparent ease, that it is beginning to demonstrate a real pattern.
The question now is, at what point will the media hold her accountable for it?

Second, this is a totally different answer than the one she delivered a week ago, to Chris Wallace.
WALLACE: At the time, that company that was making the sales to Iran -- and you were the CEO of HP at the time -- was named the wholesaler, HP's Wholesaler of the Year. How does one go from knowing all about Redington Gulf being named Wholesaler of the Year, and lecturing Chris Wallace about it, to not knowing, for sure, if Redington was really named Wholesaler of the Year, and generally playing ignorant, just a few days later?
So, how can it be that they were doing all this business with Iran, you were calling it the -- HP was calling it the Wholesaler of the Year and you didn't know what was going on?
FIORINA: The Wholesaler of the Year that you're describing was doing business with another company that was doing business with Iran. Clearly, that Wholesaler of the Year, which should not have been the Wholesaler of the Year, was not honest in their dealings with us and they were not honest in their dealings with this third company.
The answer is, of course, one does not unless they have a problem with telling the truth.
This fits a pattern that is growing, of Carly Fiorina embellishing facts until they're not true anymore, and now, changing stories between interviews, to give herself an air of innocence. - It isn't just that the SEC chose not to prosecute HP (true), now it is telling Chris Wallace and Hannity that the SEC "thoroughly investigated" HP (false) and specifically cleared her (false).
- It isn't just that she really had nothing to do with naming Redington Gulf "Wholesaler of the Year," (probably true) it's that she wasn't even CEO at the time (false) and doesn't really even know about the issue much at all (false).
- It isn't just that she worked hard and rose up to become CEO of HP (true), it's that she came from humble beginnings and rose from "Secretary to CEO" (a gross mischaracterization, at best).
- And it isn't just that she saw disturbing videos of Planned Parenthood (true), it's that she saw videos that had a kicking fetus with a beating heart and people saying to keep it alive to harvest its brain (insanely false).
Sure, all politicians engage in puffery, Democrats and Republicans. Heck, Al Gore still can't get out from under his comments about the creation of the Internet. But there are two differences, here.

Mike Huckabee Claims Refugees May Be 'Vicious People,' But That's Not The Dumbest Thing He Said
The day that Pope Francis asked Americans to respond humanely to refugees and other migrants, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee dismissed the idea of being welcoming -- insisting it could lead to admitting "some of the most violent and vicious people on Earth."
In a radio interview Thursday, as noted by Buzzfeed, Huckabee had an idea for how the U.S. should keep out violent people: a vetting process. Luckily, the United Nations and the U.S. government have already thought of that.
"If we don’t have a vetting process and understand this is not just letting, you know, some hungry children in," Huckabee told radio host John Fredericks. "This is letting a bunch of military-age-able males that we have no idea who they are, why they’re coming, and how ridiculous it would be to just say, 'Open the floodgates.' I mean we could be inviting some of the most violent and vicious people on Earth to come right in here and live among our families, and I think it’s insane."
Others have raised the concern about vetting as well, especially as the U.S. prepares to admit at least 10,000 Syrians in the next fiscal year, and to increase refugee acceptance in general. It's one thing, though, to argue the vetting process isn't good enough. To suggest that a process doesn't exist is wildly misleading.
The vetting process actually is extensive, starting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and continuing to the U.S. government. The U.N. tracks and coordinates aid for the world's 13 million refugees, including the 4 million from Syria.
Huckabee noted that not all of the people claiming asylum in Europe are actually from Syria. Regardless of their origin, the word "refugee" has a specific definition -- a person must be fleeing based on a well-founded fear of persecution for certain reasons and be unable to find protection in his or her country. Economic migrants are not considered refugees, so someone moving simply for a better life wouldn't qualify to come to the U.S. as a refugee.
After the High Commissioner for Refugees registers refugees, it determines who should be referred for permanent resettlement in other countries. Typically, a slim minority end up being resettled. The agency is aware of the possibility of fraud, and instructs its staff to be vigilant during screening to catch people who are falsely claiming identities or membership in families.
Once the U.N. refers refugees to the U.S., it takes 18 to 24 months for them to actually make it here -- if they are approved -- because of additional measures. Refugees are interviewed in person, and then are screened by the National Counterterrorism Center, the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and other agencies, according to the administration. They also go through a health screening.
The lengthy process may not be a problem under President Huckabee, however. Asked how many refugees he would take in as president, his answer seemed to be zero. He said he doesn't think" the best thing for them is to bring them to the U.S." and suggested the country should give humanitarian assistance instead, or ask Saudi Arabia to accept them.
"I think we need to say, 'Look, we will help in humanitarian efforts with food and shelter and some basic necessities to get these folks in a transition, but they don't speak our language, they don't have our culture, they’re really going to be very much sort out of their water, coming to the United States,'" Huckabee said.

Mike Huckabee Claims Refugees May Be 'Vicious People,' But That's Not The Dumbest Thing He Said
Huckabee wants to vet refugees. Luckily, we already do.
By Elise Foley, September 25, 2015The day that Pope Francis asked Americans to respond humanely to refugees and other migrants, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee dismissed the idea of being welcoming -- insisting it could lead to admitting "some of the most violent and vicious people on Earth."

Kim Davis Gets An Award For Breaking The Law To Discriminate Against Gay People
By Jennifer Bendery, September 25, 2015
Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who went to jail this month for refusing to follow the law and issue a marriage license to a gay couple, was given an award at Friday night's conservative Values Voter Summit.
Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council, presented Davis with a "Cost of Discipleship Award" that compared her with Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln because, like them, she "pursued justice at great personal cost."
"In today's conflict over the meaning of the irreplaceable civil institution of marriage, one elected official, Kimberly Davis of Rowan County, Kentucky, has inspired millions of her fellow Americans," Perkins said, reading aloud from her award. "As her words and actions attest, she has proceeded with an unshakeable blend of humility and determination. In doing so, she has reminded us we must remember to kneel before we dare stand."
Davis got several standing ovations as she stood on stage. She cried each time, and received a bouquet of flowers as Perkins read the text of the award.
"I feel so very undeserving," Davis said, choking up. "I want to start by thanking my lord and my savior Jesus Christ. Because without him, this would never have been possible. For he is my strength that carries me."
Davis said she's realized through the challenges in her life that Jesus will "show up at just the right time. His time is always perfect."
She didn't speak long. Her quivering voice turned to shouting by the end of her remarks, when she concluded with, "I am only one, but we are many!"
Davis left the stage to another standing ovation and, bizarrely, circus music.

Kim, Kim, Kim.... you have only yourself to blame for your "legal woes".
...................................................................................................................................................................
COMMENTS:
* Typical religious "nutcase" jargon! It's not my fault it is someone else's. The KY Governor did not usurp Kentucky marriage laws, they were usurped and invalidated by the highest court of the land. I am so sick of people like this piece of trash always claiming that someone else is to blame. She is not a religious clerk as I can not find anywhere were county clerks are ordained in any way. She is as looney as they come and will eventually fold or she will be voted out of office in a landslide but she will never see the light at all!
* Kim Davis is one of the most selfish, self-righteous, domineering people I have ever heard of. She has illegally "commandeered" the Rowan County Clerk's office & is abusing her employees by forcing them to abide by her twisted religious beliefs. They should all file lawsuits against her for violating THEIR religious beliefs! Why do you assume that Your Beliefs are more important than anyone else's? Shame on you Kim Davis. You give Christians a bad name. I sincerely hope that you are removed as County Clerk & receive the psychiatric help you so desperately need.
* So she blames everyone except herself for not following her oath of office and issuing marriage licenses to whomever she picks and chooses. If she doesn't like the law which requires her to uphold her oath of office she needs to resign. It is the law of the land that gay people can marry and her crusade of hatred towards them has clouded her decision making capabilities. She does not have the right to pick and choose. She is a wicked, hateful woman hiding behind religion.
* Benjamin Franklin pointed to a historical tendency among Christians to persecution: "If we look back into history for the character of the present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England blamed persecution in the Romish Church, but practiced it upon the Puritans. These found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here [England] and in New England."
* Kentucky ought to reduce all county clerks salaries to a more appropriate amount and give the difference to school teacher excellence incentive for something like science teacher of the year.
* I have read elsewhere that Dim Kim believes she does her job well. No, Dim Kim, you're not doing your job, well or not. You're not doing your job. Period. She also claims that if she resigns, she loses her "voice." So, Dim Kim likes the notoriety. It's no longer about religion, it's about her moment of fame. How else will someone so lackluster gain any moment in the sun? In reality, Dim Kim likes her cushy paycheck and the power to impose her beliefs on others. She is a bigot and a bully. Kentucky clerk Kim Davis blames governor for legal woes
By AP, September 24, 2015
Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, hauled to jail for defying a series of federal court orders and refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, filed a 40-page court document Thursday, blaming Kentucky governor Steve Beshear for all her legal woes.
The day the Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage in June, Beshear sent a letter to the state's 120 county clerks directing them to issue licenses. Davis on Thursday complained that in doing so he "commandeered" county clerk's offices and "usurped control of Kentucky marriage law."
Davis stopped issuing licenses altogether. Four couples sued Davis, elected clerk as a Democrat, and she filed a counter-suit against Beshear, also a Democrat, alleging that his refusal to exempt religious clerks from authorizing same-sex marriage violated her right to religious freedom.
Meanwhile, Davis continued to refuse court orders and U.S. District Judge David Bunning found her in contempt earlier this month and ordered her to jail for five days, propelling her to folk hero status among some on the religious right. Davis made the rounds on television news shows this week, pledging to continue her fight against gay marriage.
Shortly after the Supreme Court's ruling, she and a handful of other clerks asked the governor to call the legislature in for a special session to find a way to accommodate religious conviction. But the governor refused. He told the clerks to either issue licenses or resign.
"The courts and the voters will deal appropriately with the rest," the governor said.
Davis' lawyers with the Liberty Counsel, a firm that opposes gay rights, wrote Thursday that warning was "ominous" and suggested that Beshear's directive for clerks to abide by the Supreme Court's decision forced Davis to defy the court and wind up in jail.
Beshear has asked a judge to dismiss the suit against him.

Donald Trump goes ballistic after 'total fool' journalist uses lewd insult against him on Fox News
By Colin Campbell, September 24, 2015
Real-estate magnate Donald Trump fired off multiple furious tweets Wednesday night after a crude remark was used against him on Fox News.
Rich Lowry, the editor of the conservative magazine National Review, said the Republican presidential front-runner was attacking rival Carly Fiorina because she emasculated him at last week's presidential debate.
"Part of what's going on here is that last debate. Let's be honest: Carly cut his balls off with the precision of a surgeon, and he knows it," Lowry said during a Fox News interview, according to video posted by Mediaite.
Host Megyn Kelly was shocked.
"What did you just say?!" Kelly said. "You can't say that."
But Trump, who has fiercely feuded with both Fox News and Kelly, wasn't satisfied with her admonishment.
He trashed Lowry on Twitter as "incompetent" and "clueless," demanded an apology, and suggested that the Federal Communications Commission should fine Lowry as a result.

Donald Trump is in an all-out attack against a surging new rival — and he just fired back
By Colin Campbell, September 24, 2015
Real-estate developer Donald Trump is now frequently attacking a presidential rival he mostly refrained from criticizing in the past: US Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).
During a Thursday-morning CNN interview, Trump hit Rubio as a "kid" in a wide-ranging critique.
He first bashed Rubio's credibility as a foreign-policy wonk when asked to compare their knowledge about Syria.
"Marco Rubio sits behind a desk sometimes and he reads stuff," Trump said, according to CNN's transcript. "That's all he does. I create jobs all day long. I'll know more about all of this than all of them put together, and believe me, we'll have a winning strategy. If Marco Rubio is good, how come we're doing so badly?"
Trump went on to dismiss the 44-year-old senator's age.
"These guys don't know how to win," he said. "Marco Rubio, he's like a kid. He shouldn't even be running in this race, as far as I'm concerned. He's a kid."

COMMENTS:
* Well, he's the poster child for rude and mean. She wasn't just tying that one person, she was talking about where we are as a culture and Trump represents that perfectly. I weep for the future if people think he should be our next leader.
* Trump's backers love him for "telling it like it is". No substance, no plan, just ready to hurl insults and not be politically correct. That's our guy!
* ... It's so sad how these people are so intellectually dishonest and refuse to acknowledge all the progress that's been made simply because those accomplishments were achieved by a Democrat and the first black president. Just because their goals are to bomb everyone and squash the middle class and they haven't gotten their way. I'm dumbfounded at how these kinds of people will vote against their own best interests. Cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Every. Single. Time.
* Yes you got Trumped. His name will be brought up everytime something disgusting happens, and I feel he has asked for that.
* What stirs me up is people who I have never met who have already judged me a sinner and condemned me to hell because I support the right of everyone to be married. What also stirs me up is some old white man telling me what I can do with my body or how I can protect myself. What stirs me up is the absolute derision in which you state the word liberal. You've completely judged an entire segment of society without knowing anything other than what your nightly news feeds you. I'm not angry, I'm sad that society has descended to this level of hate and anger. Its really easy, don't threaten to take my rights away to make me live the way the conservatives want me to live, be kind to your neighbor and don't judge. My life, my choice, my answers to God on judgement day.
* What harm comes from being polite? I see this type of rude person quite frequently, and you know what?.....They're killing themselves. Nothing like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die! Kindness costs nothing.
* ... it is a symptom of a bigger problem we have in this country, of demonizing others. Everyone is an enemy. Everyone is out to get you, so you must get them first. When civility in the public breaks down, our society breaks down. We are wittnessing the destruction of our society. It can be stopped, but each of us must make an effort to do so.

How I Got 'Trumped' In The Whole Foods Parking Lot
You know all those people whose anger Donald Trump is supposedly tapping into? I think I just met one of them in, of all places, the Whole Foods parking lot.
I was backing out of my parking spot last Sunday at the same time she was exiting hers. No, I didn't hit her car. In fact, quite the opposite: To avoid a collision, I braked and pulled forward, retreating back into my parking spot to let her go first. I was being nice. But as we've learned from The Donald, niceness has no place in our lives if we want America to be great again. Instead of a friendly wave of thanks, this other driver unleashed a torrent of profanity at me and concluded with "MAKE UP YOUR MIND," yelled loud enough that I suspect some shocked Whole Foods shoppers may have dropped their kale chips.
As I posted to Facebook after the incident, the driver's rage was palpable -- and disturbing to me. Her face was red, her temples palpitating and her finger pointed menacingly at me. And over what? Her misunderstanding of my intentions.
It was one of those icky moments that make you scratch your head and wonder about the future of humanity. As I wrote on Facebook: "Why are people so needlessly angry and awful? Please don't preach to me about how I don't know what burdens [this woman] carries. I'm counting on karma to make sure she steps in dog poop." OK, I was still feeling the bee sting when I wrote that last part.
But my Facebook friends knew exactly what I was talking about. We have become a nation of mean people. People who blow up over nothing and then walk smugly away from the smoldering ruins they caused.
Consideration of others? That's for stupid idiots, not them. If you are kind, you are a chump. Now admit it: Who does that sound like? Hint: That can't be his real hair.
We've all had these encounters.
Facebook friend Ellen Margolese described how she was at a concert recently, seated at the end of the front row directly in front of the bass speakers. The sound was loud enough to make her fillings vibrate, she said. The couple seated beside her had empty seats on either side of them where they had put their jackets. So at intermission, Margolese asked the man if he would move his coat so she could get away from the speaker. He refused, saying "we actually paid for these seats." Really? He bought two seats for his coats? "Who knows," wrote Margolese, "but it was hard not to spend the next hour ruminating on nasty comments to make to him on the way out. I ended up hoping karma would get him." Karma is pretty overtaxed these days.
Friend Whitney Mills was crossing in the pedestrian crosswalk at her local farmers' market that same Sunday, but apparently not fast enough for the driver who flipped her the finger over having to make the inconvenient choice of stopping or wearing Mills as a hood ornament. Another friend told me about the driver who mouthed profanities and gave her the finger for trying to inch into traffic. It was a "not in my lane you don't" moment, the kind we see all the time here in Los Angeles.
Is it really that hard to show kindness? As blogger Sandi Mann wrote on The Huffington Post, anger is pervasive in our culture today. People believe they have the right to get angry if their steak isn't cooked to perfection or if the guy behind them in the movie theater is making too much noise eating his popcorn. I've seen people lose it when the customer in front of them takes too long to write out a check in the grocery line. It's angry, angry, angry, all the time.
Why do we do this? Why do we run around so mad all the time? What's the harm in being nice to people? Peggy Scott blames "social media [for empowering] people to be more obnoxious." Another poster suggested that people who rely on social media are "accustomed to feeling detached from others, except through their devices. Real-world interaction has no meaning, carries no weight, no consequences. Another human being is just an object to be used or tossed aside."
Rude people are everywhere, although several Facebookers said pretentiousness and the attitude of entitlement go hand-in-hand with a few of the Whole Foods shoppers they know. Mary J. Wilson Collin notes that my encounter likely wouldn't have happened at Trader Joe's. "Trader Joe's customers have always been friendly," she said.
John Stodder Jr.'s advice was, of course, spot on the money. "[I] just finished Traffic School, where I learned that you need to just suppress the idea of sending assholes like that a message. Just let 'em go on their miserable merry way. You'll live longer, which is the best revenge. Remember, every morning these poor f---ers have to look in the mirror and who do they see? A horrible person. That's their karma, a daily reminder that they are who they are."
And reader Dorothy Reinhold's observation about the Whole Foods shopper made me laugh: "She needs more fiber," deadpanned Reinhold, a food blogger.
But the one response that resonated the loudest with me was from my old high school chum, Michael Botnick: "You got "Trumped!"
And I fear he's nailed it. After all, anger's first-cousin is self-absorption.

How I Got 'Trumped' In The Whole Foods Parking Lot
What makes everybody so damn angry these days?
