GOP Rep. continues to push theory that Democrats are waging a 'war on whites'

Republicans often get hit with the stigma of being racist, and while not all Republicans fit that label, one is doing a good job of bringing race into the conversation.

Immigration reform is one of the most talked about topics around the political water-cooler, but not much has actually gotten done in Washington. Knowing that immigration is a political hot potato, Republicans often deflect from the issue. Republicans could use a more liberal stance on the issue if they plan to gain much needed Hispanic votes, but they also risk alienating southern whites, who are a core of their base.

As the border crisis continues to make both political parties scratch their heads with wonder, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) has not held back with his own personal thoughts. During an interview with AI.com, Brooks accused Democrats of waging a "war on whites."

"What the Democrats are doing with their dividing America by race is they are waging a war on whites and I find that repugnant...They're attacking, by the Democrats' opening soliciting votes of people based on skin color, they in turn are attacking whites based on skin color and that's wrong. Nobody should be attacked based on skin color."

Brooks also appeared on The Laura Ingraham show Monday, and continued with his "war on whites" theory.

"This is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else."

In an apparent attempt of reverse psychology, Brooks is trying to carve a message that points racism in the direction of Democrats, instead of Republicans. Brooks claims he "does not believe in racism" and that "everyone should be treated equally as American citizens." While his statements are noble, it comes from a man whose party hasn't had the best reputation when it comes to race relations. Democrats have had a long history of racism, but following World War 2, the parties essentially switched much of their voting base. The southern white base that has proven to have racist overtones was once a strong Democratic strong hold, but has been solidly in favor of the Republican party for over 50 years.
