Koch brothers bid high for Senate seat
Letter to the editor
By John C. Howes, October 20, 2014
We Iowans love our auctions. From farm auctions to estate auctions to charity auctions, we love a rousing “Sold to …!” So it’s not surprising that Iowa opted to have an auction this year, instead of an election, putting our available federal Senate seat up for bids.
Unfortunately, nobody can come close to outbidding the Koch brothers in Iowa’s our seat's for sale auction. I say unfortunately because it's more than obvious that the Koch brothers could not care less about Iowa as a state or about the people who live there.
Nor, truth be told, do they give a tinker's damn about Joni Ernst. She's just another Michele Bachmann look-alike whom they can manipulate with ease. The Brothers Grimm want, indeed need, that Senate seat to advance their global economic and political agenda, an agenda that in no way includes the vanishing family farm, the working men and women of Iowa and Iowa's large aging population.
And when it all goes to hell in a handbasket, who will the Koch brothers’ billion-dollar propaganda machine blame? Correct! It will blame the freeloading independent, noncorporate farmer, the pinko union member in Waterloo and those welfare leeches over 65.
