Romney, the plagiarist

TV writer tells Romney to stop using my line
Posted by William Douglas, October 12, 2012

The writer-director of the television show "Friday Night Lights" is demanding that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stop using a key catch phrase from the show in his speeches, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Peter Berg, a supporter of President Barack Obama, fired off a letter to Romney's campaign office stating that he "was not thrilled when I saw that you plagiarized" the phrase "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose" from the football-themed show and began using it "on posters, your Facebook page and as part of your stump speeches."

In the letter, obatianed [sic] by The Hollywood Reporter, Berg wrote "Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series."

"Your use of the expression falsely and inappropriately associates "Friday Night Lights" with the Romney/Ryan campaign," Berg's letter states. "Mitt, we wish you and your family all the best. We are grateful for your support of our beloved show, but we are not in any way affiliated with your campaign. Please come up with your own campaign slogan."

Ironically, "Friday Night Lights" is based on the book "Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team And A Dream" by Buzz Bissinger who recently announced that he's supporting Romney.
