Go ahead, "Tea Party"-- you'll do nothing but split the GOP even further and ensure that the Democrats will prevail!

It is time for the Tea Party to become a political party
By Judson Phillips, September 4, 2013

It is time for the Tea Party to divorce the Republican Party and start its own political party.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and the Tea Party swept into the political vacuum left by the Republican Party in 2009. There was no voice for conservatives. The GOP had surrendered to its big government wing. And because of that, the GOP had been shellacked in 2006 and 2008.

The GOP would not stand up for conservative principles and the Tea Party was born.

In 2010, the Tea Party swept the Republicans into power in the House of Representatives.

What does the Tea Party have to show for it?

For the last two and a half years, the Tea Party has watched House Speaker John Boehner raise his freshly laundered white flag of surrender time and time again.

While the Republicans come back home to tell the voters how conservative they are, the truth is quite different.

The Republican leadership has not held the line on spending. They have capitulated repeatedly on the debt ceiling. They have surrendered on taxes.  They have wanted to get along on Amnesty even though it is political suicide.  They have given us meaningless, symbolic votes to repeal Obamacare, while making no real effort to do so. With barely disguised contempt for the base, they have ignored the calls to defund Obamacare.

Now they are giving the conservative base the middle finger by rushing to war in Syria.

Barack Obama says jump and John Boehner only wants to know, “how high?”

The Tea Party brought the Republican Party back from the edge of political extinction and how did the GOP thank the Tea Party?

The Republican Establishment worked overtime to make sure the most liberal, establishment Republican in the history of the Party was nominated. The Republican Party owed its continued existence to the Tea Party and at the 2012 Republican Convention, the Tea Party was not even mentioned once.

If insanity is defined as trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, what are we doing continuing to support a Republican Party whose leadership holds the Tea Party base in contempt?

Republicans always tell conservatives that they are the lesser of two evils. They try to scare conservatives, if you don’t vote Republican, the Democrats will take over.

Right now it is hard to see how this would get any worse if the Democrats took over all three branches of government again.

Since 2009, Tea Party activists have been saying we will take over the Republican Party.  Five years on, the Republican Party is acting much more like the Democrat Party than a conservative party.

Ronald Reagan once said, “I did not leave the Democrat Party.  The Democrat Party left me.”  Now, conservatives can say the same thing about the Republican Party.

It is time for a new Tea Party political party.
