Minimum wage

An excellent letter to the editor of The Olympian brought many fine comments.  This one caught my eye:

Mr Saltsman is writing on behalf of the Economic Policy Institute, which is a group that's paid to lobby for industries. Their major clients are in the restaurant, hotel, alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries.Read more: http://www.theolympian.com/2011/01/12/1503158/minimum-wage-increase-prices-teens.html#disqus_thread#ixzz1Ax2fmwmF

eieio hit it.  Minimum wage discussions are more a product of industries that can't hire teens.  Teens can't sell alcohol in restaurants, so you'll find venues that serve alcohol don't hire teens other than a dishwasher.  Hotels have issues with alcohol service (room service) as well as bonding to enter rooms that could have customer valuables in them.  C-stores don't hire under 21 because they sell booze and tobacco.

The letter was just a lobbyist taking advantage of a free advertising medium to try to sell his case.
