It’s the GOP that needs to stop with the ‘political games’
By Martin Bashir, October 14, 2013
It’s time now to clear the air, and in today’s edition of pretense and hypocrisy, we bring you an act of such brazen dishonesty and speciousness that it’s hard to know where to begin. So let’s start with words from the horse’s mouth:
“Our vets have proven that they have not been timid, so we will not be timid in calling out any who would use our military, our vets, as pawns in a political game.”Now, for most people travelling 3,500 miles from Alaska to the nation’s capitol in order to grand stand at a WWII memorial that your own political party has caused to close would seem like a political game. But that’s only the half of it, because the Tea Party rally, which included such luminaries as Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, also boasted the considered contribution of conservative activist Mr. Larry Klayman.
Now, keep in mind that it’s the Republican Party that continues to shut down the government, thereby curtailing veterans benefits, and it’s the Republican Party whose sequester cuts have hammered the military. But here’s the real giveaway, the singular proof that Sunday’s rally was solely about using the military as pawns in a political game:
“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come up with his hands out.”
This is the political game that Mrs. Palin and her allies have been playing, even before this president was inaugurated. For them, this is what the shutdown is really all about. So for those who may be incapable of reading the written word, here’s what the president himself says about his own personal faith:
“You needed to come to church precisely because you were of this world, not apart from it; rich, poor, sinner, saved, you needed to embrace Christ precisely because you had sins to wash away,” the president wrote in The Audacity of Hope. “It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ, one day, and be baptized. I felt God’s spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to his will.”
When asked the question, the current President of the United States has clearly and unequivocally affirmed his own faith. But give her addiction to hypocrisy, her propensity to tell lies and to smear the character of others, isn’t it time that the same question was addressed to Mrs. Palin?
