The certification requirements that will have to be followed according to that act are established in the 2010 edition of the United Egg Producers (UEP) Animal Husbandry Guidelines.  The guidelines for caged chickens call for 67 to 86 square inches of usable space per bird to optimize "hen welfare".  67 to 86 square inches sounds good, huh?  Well, guess again, that's only slightly more than the size of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper!!!  How inhumane can you get?  (Makes you wonder if a Republican wrote the guidelines and/or the legislation!)


If you feel a chicken deserves more than a 10.7 x 10.7 inch space to live her life-- please call your State Senator and kindly ask her or him to vote NO on this bill. This bill needs to be improved to provide adequate space for a hen to at least stretch her wings!
