GOP: do you really think you can improve your image by espousing Fox talking points?

APOV: 'Just politics' is no excuse
By Bob Farnham, November 14, 2013

I haven’t really been absent — more like having been out of breath. Wow, to think the Democrats and our President are finally guilty of something for which the accusations are coming fast and furious (oops, poor choice of words — I suppose now there will be a reopening of that investigation!). One thing is for sure: The focus is on Obamacare, pretty much where it should be right now. It’s just too bad that it’s for the poor rollout rather than the positive message which Americans should be getting.

This latest gaffe where several million Americans are getting letters of cancellation makes me sorry that we have tried to tackle this nation’s worst nightmare, which is the healthcare industry and its stranglehold on this country, and our economy. It’s always the case that our citizens get caught in the crossfire. Once this is all sorted out and once we have identified all the fraudulent healthcare insurance policies in effect, and we have further identified the outright theft occurring in this system, we and our country will have been gifted with one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Keep the faith.

Speaking of faith, it seems as if the Church has been consistently silent on the lack of compassion by Republicans for the less fortunate of our nation. Come on church leaders, stop running scared that you will lose your tax-exempt status or your control over caring for the poor of this country. Would it not be more caring to accept sufficient funding from our Congress rather than to insist on maximum donations from your parishioners? You are hurting your church faithful just the same as you hurt the poorest of our nation. Or do you fear being cut-out as the middleman? Come on — ditch the silent prayer and speak up!

My parents always said “God helps those who help themselves.” But did you ever try to help yourself when you cannot even get a job? Where do the Republicans expect our less fortunate, no, let me rephrase that: Why do Republicans condemn the poor to a life of nothingness by refusing to work with this President to re-construct the failing infrastructure of this country and put those people to work? And I will add to that question, dammit!?

Further I ask why can’t we devote ourselves to the improvement of this country to benefit every single American instead of stonewalling every effort expended by the White House to do just that. And why do Republicans really think that they can intimidate the voting public into never again electing a minority as President? Do they believe that the states controlled completely by Republicans can pervert their elections process to eliminate from the voting rolls those who believe in a discriminatory-free world? Especially, a discriminatory-free America! And I speak of our female population as well, because it seems as though you want to relegate them back to the kitchen, their prison for the past several centuries — in case you just don’t get that either?

If the answers to those aforementioned questions is “just politics” then I say in response: Do you really think you can improve your image by sitting on your hands and espousing Fox talking points, while hoping that Americans will somehow have a “Kumbaya” moment? It probably ain’t happening — so why not listen to what my parents said, “God helps those who help themselves.” Now, “get to work!” — please. They taught me that, too.

Finally, having spoken to someone with French relatives, I am told that there is so much “negativity” being released by America into the atmosphere that it has affected, no, not environmental pollution, but the pull of “gravity” to the extent that other countries no longer need to break out a ladder to change the light-bulbs in their chandelier!

Note to Diane Sawyer: Please no more and, ad infinitum ... thanks.
