N.J. Sen. Diane Allen tapped to lead national political group for women
By Matt Friedman, November 22, 2013

A New Jersey lawmaker has been tapped to lead an organization that encourages women to run for office.

State Sen. Diane Allen on Thursday was named president of the The National Order of Women Legislators at its forum in Arlington, Va.

Allen (R-Burlington) – a former TV news anchor in Philadelphia – began her legislative career in the Assembly in 1996 and moved up to the state Senate in 1998. A moderate Republican, she has consistently won re-election in a district that favors Democrats.

“This organization’s mission and commitment to supporting women in public life makes it truly unique and vitally important,” Allen said in a statement. “I look forward to working with elected women across the country and across party lines so we can tackle the pressing challenges facing our country today.”

Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Union) said his members are "so proud that one of the strongest women in the history of New Jersey’s legislature is our colleague and has earned this impressive national leadership position."
