An Arizona voter wants "... a Republican candidate who wants to improve education, health care, our natural resources and environment and the safety of Arizona citizens for a change." Good luck with that!

Looking for sane GOP politicians to vote for
Letter to the editor by Richard D. Manuel, May 10, 2014

I'm an independent voter who spent about 40 years as a registered Republican voter. I didn't leave the Republican Party; it left me. It put on jogging shoes and ran away from sane voters everywhere.

Having said that, I continue to seek out sane Republicans to vote for, but that's getting to be a tough task.

As I look at the field of Republican candidates for governor, I want them to know this:

I am tired of taxpayers in this state having to foot legal bills of tens of millions of dollars to defend state lawmakers who continue to meddle in affairs meant for elected officials further up the food chain (federal officeholders).

I'm tired of my tax dollars being spent to defend legislation designed to prevent people from voting, falling in love with whomever they choose (and then marrying them), and doing other things they have a constitutional right to do.

I'm also tired of paying money to defend state lawmakers who use their public offices to force everyone else to follow their religious beliefs.

It appears most of the Republican candidates for governor are running against President Barack Obama and against the Constitution of the United States. It appears they are running for everything except the duties assigned to the office of governor of Arizona.

As Gov. Jan Brewer can attest, it's very expensive and a waste of time to continue to pound one's head against the wall, especially in light of the fact most of us footing the bill are fed up with it.

How about a Republican candidate who wants to improve education, health care, our natural resources and environment and the safety of Arizona citizens for a change?
