"Who are the people who have been so taken in by Republican blabbering about health care, education, gun carrying and taxes that they vote for the politicians who are making their lives more fragile in every way possible?"

Milton Bass: Money v. the people
By Milton Bass, May 18, 2014

To paraphrase Robert Frost, a hospital emergency room is a place where when you have to go there, they have to take you in. That was the regimen believed in by former President George W. Bush when he remarked in Cleveland in answer to a question about health care in this country, "I mean, people have access to health care in America. After all, you just go to an emergency room." I think I remember that Mitt Romney went along with that observation even though he was part of the Massachusetts medical revolution.

You have to ask yourself why the Republican Party has reacted to so-called Obamacare with such vicious politicizing and also ask yourself why so many average citizens vote for politicians who are death on increasing health care for the average citizen. Massachusetts took the big step all the way back in Mitt Romney’s time and we’re all the healthier for it.

Who are the people who have been so taken in by Republican blabbering about health care, education, gun carrying and taxes that they vote for the politicians who are making their lives more fragile in every way possible? Why have the Tea Party advocates become so powerful as spokesmen for whom?

Many Tea Party members are just plain nuts when it comes to their idea of democracy and how it works. They keep trying to enshrine their own kooky beliefs into the dead heads of our so-called Founding Fathers. Despite what Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia believes, times have changed and they are going to keep on a-changin’. What the United States needs is new solutions for new problems right now brought on mostly by climate change.

The Koch brothers have been pouring millions of their easily-gotten gains into fighting Obamacare, unions and whatever other organizations are trying to better the conditions of working people throughout our society. The mega-corporations like the status quo where they call their own shots on national, state and local matters. Right now, all the little communities in Berkshire County are mobilizing against the Tennessee Gas Company that wants to run new gas lines willy-nilly through our verdant pastures. But the gas people pull their strings on a higher level than we can reach and truth and justice are shoved aside when final decisions are made.

The Koch brothers with their billions have painted themselves into a plush corner because they are willing to pour their funds into reactionary organizations with patriotic names that are devoted to enhancing their money-making and keeping the little people under control.

We won’t find out who the joke is really on, however, until after the 2016 election. Because despite all the lies that have been planted, fertilized and enhanced, Obamacare seems to be working according to plan. The number of enrollees is even larger than hoped for, a broad spectrum of people have signed up, the entrenched insurance companies are still doing well for themselves and their top executives, and the common man has support beyond the emergency room for the first time.

So have the Koch Brothers lost along with all those other reactionaries? I’m afraid not. They live in gated communities with guards scattered here, there and everywhere. They travel surrounded by a protective phalanx. And they are convinced of their own authoritative beliefs. How many drones do you think they own?
