Christie: Congressional Republicans not interested in getting things done
By Peter Schroeder, September 13, 2015

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) blasted congressional Republicans Sunday, saying they are more interested in scoring interviews and political points that getting things done.

The GOP presidential candidate vowed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that if elected president, he would be able to whip Washington into shape, while digging at GOP competitors already in Congress who he says have failed.

“I have absolutely no doubt that I could come down to Congress, not cave, and get the job done,” he said.

Christie argued that the wave of GOP lawmakers that have taken office in the last few elections have accomplished nothing with their offices. Even with President Obama prepared to veto a host of their initiatives, Christie argued they aren’t even making a sufficient effort.

“They’ve underdelivered. As an executive, you’d never be allowed to have this,” he said. “They care more about being on shows like this, being inside the Beltway, and spouting off things.

“What have these guys done?” he asked.

Christie said that the surge of outsiders like Donald Trump and Ben Carson to the top of GOP primary polls is proof that voters are sick of Washington. And while Christie curries little favor with those conservatives pushing the outsiders, he argued his record as governor proves he could improve matters.

“They want to burn down Congress because it doesn’t do anything,” he said.
