"Donald Trump, if he wins, will be the first president removed from office through impeachment." Let's just not elect him in the first place.

Republicans Should Call For Donald Trump’s Impeachment
By Erica Kepplet, July 18, 2016

In this presidential election season we’ve witnessed something remarkable: a major American political party being forced to tolerate the nominating process subjecting them to a presidential candidate they really didn’t want or like. One that threatens the very survival of the party. Rumblings of an attempt to oust Donald Trump at the Republican Convention through some sort of parliamentary trickery have abounded for weeks. Such a move would carry enormous risk and would be tantamount to throwing the election. It would split the party and guarantee a Clinton victory. With Trump’s unusually early announcement of Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate, there is another way.

How can a party get around the nominating process picking someone they hate? One way is to play your candidate into selecting a vice presidential running mate who you really like, throw everything into getting them both elected like they would any election year, and then wait for Trump to do something stupid in office (which shouldn’t take long). Then the Republicans can whole heartedly call for his impeachment in the Senate. The Democrats will go along with it of course, and the Republicans can be seen as willing to set aside partisan politics for the national good while getting rid of the guy they were stuck with and slipping in the guy they really wanted.

Was Trump’s pick of Pence his and his alone? Probably not. At this point, Trump has to be working with Republican leadership. He’s not unaware of people who would like to run him out at the convention. He needs to play nice with these people and give them some concessions on things that don’t matter much to him. The only thing that truly matters to Trump is himself being president. He doesn’t even care what he might do as president. The narcissist simply wants to be. Narcissists are by nature easily manipulated. Play to their ego, and you can lead them anywhere you want.

The Republican leaders could have easily lead him to pick their man in Mike Pence, a social conservative and evangelical who looks the presidential part. The extreme Christian bias of the Republican platform shows who’s really in charge at the RNC, making Trump’s pick of the most fundamentalist Christian name from his short list seem all the more influenced by party leadership.

It’s unusual for a presidential candidate to announce a running mate prior to the convention, but then Trump is an unusual candidate. Here again though, one must ask if the early announcement was Trump being Trump, or was it a part of the arrangement made with the Republican Party? The convention is their show, and for Trump to do this just a few days before curtain, the party would have a hissy fit if it wasn’t a part of their plan. No, they’re cool with it. They wanted the announcement to come before the convention.

Maybe the early announcement is a subtle message to convention goers to lay down and not put up a fight against Trump. Look unified and put on a good show of solidarity. Once they win, they’ll only have to put up with Trump for a few months before the Pence administration begins.

I strongly suspect that if no serious attempt to remove Trump materializes at the Republican Convention, the fix may be in. Donald Trump, if he wins, will be the first president removed from office through impeachment.
