United Suspends Pilot Who Called for Hanging Hillary Clinton
By Doni Bloomfield, July 17, 2016

United Airlines suspended pilot and Republican West Virginia lawmaker Michael Folk from flying pending an investigation after he said Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should be executed.

“This pilot has been removed from flying pending our investigation,”  United Continental Holdings Inc. tweeted Sunday. “We are appalled by his threatening comments.”

Folk, a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, in a tweet said that Clinton should be tried for treason and then “hung on the mall in Washington, D.C.,” according to CNN. The tweet has since been deleted. Reached on his mobile phone, Folk declined to comment. Folk told CNN he was being hyperbolic in his tweet about Clinton, who has been under fire for revelations that she used a private e-mail address to conduct government business as secretary of state.

Folk began flying with United in 2008, according to his profile on LinkedIn. He is the vice chair of four committees in the West Virginia House of Delegates, including the Judiciary and Political Subdivisions. In a separate tweet, United said comments advocating harm to anyone don’t represent the company.

The West Virginia Democratic Party called for Folk to resign following his comments.

“Not only are Delegate Folk’s words concerning, they are disturbing,” Belinda Biafore, the party’s chair, said in a statement Saturday. “Folk’s actions should deem him as unfit to serve.”

This year, Folk was the lead sponsor of a bill to add the likelihood of imminent violent lawlessness to the crime of intimidation and retaliation in West Virginia.
