Is Comcast buying congressional cooperation for less than a million dollars? Cheap, huh?

Follow the money to Congress on Comcast-Time-Warner deal
By seattlepi.com staff, February 14, 2014

The next phase for the proposed $45 billion Comcast-Time-Warner corporate union will be before the long arm of the federal government, whose regulators will be sifting out the antitrust implications of a merger that could hammerlock one-third of the market. The Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission will be at the front of giving this merger the smell test.

No doubt our nation’s elected representatives will get in in the act, too, and there the money-and-politics picture clouds. Comcast has been among the most generous donors to our nation’s stewards in Washington and our pals at Maplight – which analyzes the impact of money on politics — says Comcast has “been focusing their giving on members of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, which has jurisdiction over the Federal Communications Commission.”

Here’s Maplight’s analysis of OpenSecrets.org data of contributions to current members of Congress from PACs and employees of Comcast Corp., from January 1, 2001 – December 31, 2012.
