George Will: IRS targeting scandal on par with Watergate, Iran-Contra
February 3, 2014

Fox News contributor George Will said Monday the IRS targeting of conservative groups was one of the three biggest political scandals in the last 40 years.

Watergate and Iran-Contra were the other two major scandals, according to Will. His comments were in response to President Obama’s Super Bowl Sunday interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly.

In the interview, Obama called the targeting “boneheaded decisions” and said there was “not even a smidgen of corruption.”

Will says it's evident Obama knows the media is not closely investigating the scandal.

"This is not being perused and the president knows that," Will said. "Hence his sense of weariness and boredom as he discussed this with Bill O’Reilly."

House GOP Fights Effort to Limit Political Groups
By Stephen Ohlemacher, February 11, 2014

Congressional Republicans are fighting efforts by the Obama administration to rein in the political activities of tax-exempt groups.

A House panel passed a bill Tuesday that would delay regulations by the Treasury Department designed to limit the political activities of so-called social welfare groups.

In the past several years, some of these groups have raised and spent millions influencing the outcome of elections. Others are small community groups advocating local issues. For all of them, their tax-exempt status allows them to keep secret the identity of their donors.

"It is about disclosure," said Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-N.J., a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee. "Nowhere in the Bill of Rights does it say you have the right to say anything you want — and also not pay any taxes."
