"A total of 70% of Republican voters said they believe Trump’s racially charged rhetoric is correct. ... Republican officials have to come to terms with that."

COMMENTS:
*  The Press seems incapable of seeing that Donald Trump is the GREAT WHITE HOPE. Racist and Xenophobes have been waiting for decades for a "RESPECTABLE" racist to carry their message. Finally they have what they want, a respectable, billionaire, successful business man that is going to "VALIDATE" their xenophobia and racism. This should scare everyone, not just Republicans
*  Fact is he's TALKING about key issues that America wants a politician to do something about.  All other politicians are just going to talk about it...and do nothing as usual.  Let's remember Obama's 1st two years in office: Democrats controlled both the Senate and the House.  He swore to fix the immigration issue....and NADA!  So now we have a egomaniac in the GOP hitting the hard questions, unafraid to risk a post-election financial setup because of his wealth.  He's going to make both parties and contestants choose a position, and that is the value of Donald the pinhead.
*   You should recognize the method. It's what FOX and the rabid right do to Obama, HRC, and any other Democrat they are trying to discredit.
*  Being conservative means never having to come to terms with anything.
    *  Being a Conservative politician means never having to say you're sorry.
*  That poll doesn't tell the GOP anything, because the GOP does not listen to anything it doesn't want to hear.
*  I really really would like to see a debate between Donald (don't let a word in edgewise) Trump and Chris (Siddown and shuddup) Christie.  Especially if I have the popcorn and earplugs concessions.
*  Yes, Republications have the art redistricting down to a pat. Hopefully, new laws will put a stop to that. The GOP has never entered an election that it felt it could win honestly. If it's not the brother of a Presidential candidate putting a stop to recounting votes that may have been gathered illegally, it's a Democratic candidate who is well ahead of his opponent in Ohio the night of the election who, mysteriously, watches his lead dissolve in a matter of hours, or simply finding an excuse to ensure that certain groups who are most likely to vote Democratic don't get to vote.

New polling tells the GOP what it doesn’t want to hear
By Steve Benen, July 17, 2015

It seems inevitable that Donald Trump’s standing in national polls will fade, but for now, that shift remains on the horizon. Politico reported overnight on the new Fox News poll:
Donald Trump leads all Republican presidential candidates for the GOP primary, according to a new Fox national poll of registered voters released Thursday.

Eighteen percent of GOP voters said they supported Trump, up 7 percent from last month and 15 percent from March.
Trailing Trump’s 18% support is Scott Walker, who’s in second with 15%, and Jeb Bush with 14%. No other candidate reached double digits in the Fox poll.

The results are roughly consistent with this week’s USA Today/Suffolk poll, which also found Trump leading, and which also showed Trump generating about the same amount of support as Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul combined.

Making matters slightly worse for the Republican establishment, the Fox poll also found President Obama’s approval rating climbing three points over the last month, reaching 47%, the strongest support the president has seen in a Fox poll in three years.

As we talked about the other day, the significance of polls like these is not in their predictive value – the results shed little light on who’s likely to win the Republicans’ presidential nomination – but this year, national surveys will dictate who participates in televised debates, making the polls more important than they’ve ever been.

And in this specific poll, that’s not all. Consider this question Fox asked respondents:
“Recently, presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He said Mexico is quote, ‘sending people that have lots of problems…. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.’ Setting aside how Trump worded his comments, do you think he’s basically right on this, or not?”
A total of 70% of Republican voters said they believe Trump’s racially charged rhetoric is correct. That’s not a typo – seven in 10.

There are some ugly attitudes that have pushed Trump to the top of the crowded GOP field, and Republican officials have to come to terms with that.
