"Government by corporation is more than a 'problem'; it’s becoming a catastrophe." And the Koch brothers are right in the middle of it.

People's Forum: Koch brothers part of government corruption
Letter to the editor by Joann Smith, July 22, 2015

In 1981 President Ronald Reagan declared that “government is the problem.”

Government? Why, that’s “We the people!” With this assault on government, big corporations and banks broke into a happy dance. If they could now trick the American people into ganging up on government, then big corporations and banks could run amok with little oversight. Banks could cheat—and be bailed out by taxpayers. Corporations could spill, drill, even kill. They also could take on and destroy one power still remaining for working people: the labor unions.

And virtually destroy them they did; unions are now down to 7 percent of the U.S. workforce. A sad development in recent history is the Tea Party. Created and financed by the corporate billionaire Koch brothers, the Tea Party wants to “take back the country,” but in buying into the ideology that government is the problem, the Tea Party is set to hand over the American people to a corporate plutocracy. With the likes of Clarence Thomas of the U.S. Supreme Court dining and schmoozing with the Koch brothers, we now have an increasingly corrupt Supreme Court, as well as a Congress largely bought and paid for by corporations and billionaires.

If the Koch brothers are successful in buying a president in 2016, we’ll have the third and final branch of government unanswerable to the ordinary citizen who will no longer have a voice in what happens in this country. How ironic!

Government by corporation is more than a “problem”; it’s becoming a catastrophe.
