Letter: How does God view political choices?
By Liana B. Teteberg, December 25, 2013
As
I listen to the frenzied cries of those of you who stand in righteous
indignation, opposing others’ right to marry and share their lives,
I wonder what you say to your God, whom you believe created us all?
When
you stand in staunch opposition to supporting health care for all,
because your economic perspective does not allow for such a "free
ride," how does your God consider these choices? When you battle
to halt or decrease funding for education or infrastructure of roads
and bridges, how does that square with your belief in a God who
supposedly loves us all?
During
this season, many of you consider joyous because Jesus came to show
us how to live and love, I don’t recall any Bible story where Jesus
demonstrated prejudice, hatred and disrespect nor any stories where
Jesus, in the name of God, demeaned others, denied justice or struck
down those who have less, achieve less, are less able. Did your God
give you the burden to judge others?
Please
tell me about how your God would view your attitudes, behavior and
words in regard to all that you (not your God) have determined to be
unacceptable?
