Letter to the Editor:
Phonies use religion for political reasons
By Teresa Morano Ladner, December 20, 2013
Our
Vatican Embassy hasn’t closed, or changed its mission. There has
been no change in its diplomatic staff or reduction in ambassadors.
The staff simply will move to the more secure complex of our embassy
to Italy.
Considering the Republican fixation with Benghazi and the fact that the move saves us $1.4 million, our Tea Party congressman should be pleased. Instead Grimm called it a slap in the face.
I
recall Grimm and his Tea Party pals going on an all-expenses-paid
$10,000 jaunt to Israel, where some were caught running nude on the
beach after boozing it up. Republicans called that sophomoric
behavior a religious pilgrimage, not a slap in the face or political
bribe.
Perhaps
Grimm should tell Pope Francis, who just called unfettered capitalism
a new tyranny, how cutting Meals on Wheels is doing God’s work.
Our
congressman answers to a higher source: Chase, GE, Bank of America,
Exxon. Just like any religious organization they pay zero in taxes.
Isn’t
it odd, 12 years of Catholic school and I never heard a nun say
“Greed is good” or “Starve the poor.”
I
don’t pretend to be religious, I am simply disgusted by phonies who
use religion for monetary and political gain.
