Strange......and wonderful

As most of you know, I monitor the stats for ThurstonBlog.  Therefore a couple of things worth mention:

1.  Thanks to "Everday Olympia" for their mention.  We've had some nice traffic referred from your site.

2.  For some unknown reason, for the past two days, there have been close to a half dozen page views to each of two blogs from several months ago.  Said blogs were parodies of the moderator (former???) of The Olympian, at least at the time of publication.  Something tells me that someone is up to something.

This might be a good time for a refresher on use of quotes and images of people on ThurstonBlog.

If anyone decides to use a quote from a media, please identify said media.  I'm not worried about lawsuits, it's just professional courtesy.

Imagery and pictures - If you lift a picture from a media, you should also ID said media.  Any imagery should always ID the individual correctly.  For instance, if you want to do a parody on me, identify me as me and make sure that the photo you use is either credited, or in some cases permission granted. (The Chronicle in Centralia is a real stickler about their photos being used for anything.  I requested permission of a photo of me from a feature story and was turned down.  I had to take a picture of their tabloid for reproduction - as was OK'd by the editor).

Further on imagery - please don't use a picture from the media and attempt to mislead readers as to who it is.  The parodies mentioned above identified the person correctly, and went on to critique their work.  This is acceptable.  To use someone's picture and attempt to represent them as someone else, would be inappropriate, not to mention a possible attempt to attach quotes that they never made.  ALWAYS made sure that you don't lift art from any site that might be proprietary - logos, etc, without permission from the author or organization.  For instance, Big Brothers Big Sisters reserves the right for their logo to be only used with permission or by designated supporters.  This is their protection from being misrepresented.

I'm sure I'll find out soon enough who has the bee in their bonnet.  Meanwhile, it provides for a great refresher opportunity.
