This is what irresponsible journalism looks like

I guess 2:00am is unthinkable for a judgmental bastard with an authoritarian fetish.

Gee 2am! Tweakers hours, he probly[sic] needed his next fix. Any meth maggot anywhere doing anything is a threat. There really is no good reason to have tweakers or any drug users in the community.

Maybe if people start defending thier[sic] property, these dirt bags will think twice before victimizing innocent homeowners. Lets have a little empathy towards the victims for a change & not the poor criminals.

On yesterday's thread Berryhill, the brother of the gunshot victim wrote his brother was drunk and accidentally stumbled onto the gunman's property. From the account the man shot the the victim as the victim tried to leave. That's not self-defense, that's attempted murder folks.

For the record:

Berryhill wrote on 04/21/2010 02:34:23 PM:

There was no breaking of windows. The homeowner heard something and called police but it wasn't the breaking of windows. The victim did not try to get into his house, he was actually trying to leave his yard. If the homeowner had already called the police and there was no immediate threat, why pull out the gun. The victim was not armed, he did not try to get into the home, he did not threaten the homeowner. He was in the wrong place and when he tried to get out of the guys yard, he got shot. Fine, write him a ticket for trespassing but does he deserve to be shot.

I do have offer props to the Oly Interactive crew this morning. I hit the abuse button and The Crew did pull olywest's slanderous comment which he re-posted a few minutes later. Not as good as active moderation but better than nothing.

I'm waiting to see if they will get an update on the story, or just use it to milk the swill from the community.

B Larry, definitely B. When the facts as reported by someone w/ 1st hand knowledge are known, the bleating fascists will wander off to the next outrage and traffic, (ie what the Olympian can sell advertisement for), will decline.

As I've said before, the Olympian is no longer a newspaper, it is a tabloid. Look for the Page Three Girl soon.

Appears that the foamers and frothers who were exultant over the fact that a homeowner had shot and critically wounded an "intruder" have quietly crawled back under their rocks this afternoon after "berryhill" posted some credible sounding and illuminating info on this situation. Good ol' glenn even offered sympathy. The number of postings has dramatically slowed the last several hours. Sad indication of the quality of some of the folks who live among us, makes me think of sharks attracted to blood in the water.

As a couple of posters have noted, all the info isn't available yet (though berryhill, if he's really who he says he is, has offered more insight than the Olympian's reporter), so we shouldn't make snap judgements. But, it's looking more like there's a trigger-happy gun nut on McCormick Ave. Kinda sounds like tweaker behavior. Sure hope the young man recovers to tell his side of it.

Strange and a little scary that there are two "shoot first, ask questions later" incidents within a couple of days of each other.

I couldn't have said it better, winer.

There are hundreds of similar incidents like this one every year. Gundamentalists go on and on about how many lives guns save but I wonder how many of those, (and God I hate this gun porn term), good shoots are in fact much like this one. We hear about the Texan who murdered two kids (sympathetic victims) who came to his door in the middle of the day)but how many bad shoots get covered up or over looked.

It is clear we could implement procedures to get guns out of the hands of the criminal and insane. How to keep them out of the hands of cowards is another question.

Consider this....

Independent Voter, aka Barney Fife, owns a handgun.

Oh dear God...

I wonder when IV finally snaps will the prosecutor and /or psychiatrist quote from his Olympian droppings?

I reported IV's veiled threat to "take matters into their own hands" when he was commenting about Evergreen students AKA, rioters. When I didn't get a supportive response, the mayor got a personal email from me, as we know each other.
