At 11:36 pm, yesterday, I was sound asleep and had been for a couple of hours.
Based on the posts from yesterday, it appears that someone that THE OLYMPIAN ALLOWS PUBLISHING ACCESS is intent on me and defacing me. They use my name as their moniker and post negative things I would never say. They know that anyone who might disagree with them is me (which is probably a compliment directed my way).
Here is the reality of the issue. The comments forum on The Olympian is out of control and damage is being done. I note that my moniker (actually two, as I had to change....again) was blocked so that only I could see my posts, which is basically like a suspension. I've done nothing wrong. I've not violated their terms of service. What I did do was request that an unauthorized post from ThurstonBlog be deleted, to which I got an unprofessional response from Tammy McGee. The blocking of my comments is nothing other than retribution of my actions, which were no different than Lui Long asking that ThurstonBlog credit The Olympian when authors copy and paste from their media.
The bottom line - The Olympian breeds a staff that lacks professionalism and the ability to truly represent the interests of THIS COMMUNITY, thus their eventual failure. It's a shame, but a self induced death of a voice that has been in this community for many years.
A newspaper doesn't have to be liked - in fact the former publisher once publically said "when I wake up in the morning I know that at least half my audience will be pissed off that me" (BTW - try to type "PISSED" on the comments - part of their problem, LACK OF CONSISTANCY). I honored that man for understanding the role of a newspaper.
I've begun a campaign to gain interest from their corporate headquarters in Sacramento. McClatchy Newspapers has a history of turning out quality products and I don't think they would want their good name soiled by lazy editing and discriminatory practices.
It will be an interesting quest.

After yesterday's blood bath it will be interesting to see how long these clear cut violations of the O's Guidelines stay up.

Larry, here is a few of my comments on the O today: (for reference, glenns rant was about you, and the "reasons" justifying the abuse.)
Glenn, I rarely agree with your opinions, yet do so respectfully, as I believe we have come to an understanding to agree to disagree. I maintain that understanding with many of the right of center posters here. That said, there are some on the right who recently hijacked this thread, for vendetta, or political viewpoints. We were warned, by an individual poster, that they would do this. It effects us all in a negative way.
If viewpoints are expressed elsewhere on the Internet, pro or con to this thread, and individuals wish to do that, and choose NOT TARNISH THE COMMENTS HERE, with those opinions, it is their prerogative. WE CHOOSE TO LEAVE THOSE OPINIONS ELSEWHERE.

Just so that all know -
I'm compiling emails between The Olympian and myself and sending links to particular parts of ThurstonBlog to the gentleman at the McClatchy Corporate office, who I spoke with this morning. There is no sense in trying to pull anything from The Olympian that is already not on ThurstonBlog because I trust that deletion and scrubbing has already started.
I told this gentleman that (1) I will not tolerate being made a public scapegoat and (2) that our blog authors are willing to all address him in individual letters or a joint letter, individually signed. I said that it is our intent to see the forum survive, but that someone needs to control the moderation and leave the personal feelings at the door.
I'm going to pointedly link him to the "Death Threat" blog because I think that it illustrates how the Right Wing manipulated The Olympian moderators and when I called them on it, the embarrassment spilled over into this biased moderation that we've witnessed. It's not our fault that Lui and Tammy were suckered by someone. Hell, I even deleted the comment as a sign of good will.
I'll keep everyone posted - or watch The Olympian as I'm sure someone will copy and paste this on a log somewhere.
Based on the email I just got, unless anything changes, corporate put the challenges in the hands of Jerry Wakefield and Georg Le Masurier. Included was email links but since Wakefield's name was misspelled and I question the publisher's name spelling also, I'll leave it up to individuals as to if they want to address either.
Both have been on emails - in particular the "death threat" issue and neither have cared enough to be involved.
My opinion - for what it's worth - for right now, an extremist or two is getting their way because of resentments between The Olympian staff and me (still not sure why, other than I'm just too damned honest). The tide will turn sooner or later because the Rightists always will resort to abusive methods, especially when they think they've "won".
Nothing will change from my position. I don't abuse The Olympian's forums and I'm not going to start now. As to the staff, they can deny the issue all they want, but it won't make it go away.
If I hear anything different I'll let you all know.

PAX - You always agree with Larry. You defend him and when he tries to take someone "on", you step in and throw a kick whenever you can. Please don't try the "centrist" position - it doesn't fit with what we all know about you. And yes, when stonefist says "we", he's taking about grown-ups. We do agree. Larry has singlehandedly shut down these forums in the past by pouring gas and throwing matches. So please don't insult us by playing the "I don't always agree with Larry" routine. We do have memories and do know what and who you are.
