From Anonymous 98507:

Editor's Note: This was submitted as a comment to "Down Again", but I felt it deserved it's own blog. Comments are welcome!

I decided to do a bit of research and found the following among other things:
http://www.igreenbaum.com/2009/01/taking-a-2nd-look-at-coarse-reader-comments
This is exactly on-topic about newspapers and readercomments.
http://www.igreenbaum.com/2008/04/anonymous-comments-where-readers-editors-disagree
Earlier blog, same topic as previous one.
http://www.minnpost.com/braublog/2009/07/22/10410/newspapers_take_renewed_aim_at_the_comment_cesspool"Newspapers
take renewed aim at the comment cesspool"
http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/2009/03/lawyers_try_to_tame_anonymous.php
"Lawyers Try to Censor Anonymous Website Comments" The opposite situation of what glenn is complaining about.
http://blog.tech-and-law.com/2009/11/newspaper-website-not-liable-for-reader.html
“Newspaper website not liable for reader comments" A UK site so not exactly applicable here in the US but still interesting.

Here's a mouthful for the "boycott" band....

"In short, several bad apples spoiled the bunch," Forum editor Matthew Von Pinnon wrote July 14.

"As the debate became less civilized, more and more readers told us they turned away from the comments. Many said what was once a cherished part of their day — either reading comments or making comments — had turned into a waste of their time because of the low and petty level of discourse. We respect people’s time. That’s a core journalistic value."

I don't think that Cheeseburger's boycott will make the front page but it will make her look foolish, as if she needed help.

You're welcome, A_t_G. Always happy to provide a kick in the pants to the asses who have tried to ruin it for the rest of us who know how to be civil. :-)

Geez, Mark, if you had read the articles I so kindly provided the links for, you would have known that "July 14th" came from one of them.

What would the date of an article have to do with the validity of information, considering the subject matter?

This is timeless information, until a law is passed saying assholes get to ruin newpaper blogging forums.

Mark, when I read some of your fucked up arguments, I see "SondraK" written all over them.

Are you two conjoined twins?

"the argument is that the paper is a public forum and commentors enjoy the rights provided by the Constitution within the guidelines of the paper"
