Olympian Thread is shut down

I spoke to today's moderator and...yes...unfortunately the Olympia LTE comments are shut down again. The moderator felt that everything was actually improving but took strong exception to some personal attacks. Since she is filling in for the regular moderator, she said that frankly, she had more important things to do that worry about the thread.

So.....mine is open, but, since I moderate all comments and I will be gone for an appointment this afternoon, you'll have to be patient as I may not be able to clear you from email.

Post on!

When they disable comments, they should have the courtesy to post that they have done so and why. Otherwise we just assume that it's just another case of site loading problems.

The Zip either needs to get serious about moderation or do away with comments altogether. I'm leaning to the later.

According to the moderator with whom I spoke, she was basically happy with the flow of conversation, then, all of a sudden the attack on RD by someone and then, unfortunately, a personal attack on me by the assistant that worked for my boss and I at the agency. She was the one that got rattled because many of us disagreed with the woman's accusation about Evergreen students.

This woman, posing as a male character, didn't like that she complained about students driving fast and I reflected on an episode of riding with a coworker. Now I didn't call her by name, nor did I even let the thread know that she was not a man. Nor did I post that I knew her or was even talking about her.

Her personal attack at me, will not serve her well as she falsely reported that I had been fired. The reality is that the agency and I came to a mutual agreement about my separation that saved a couple of other jobs (and programs for kids) and satisfied some concerns of mine. For her to have blown up as she did, not only put her in jeopardy, but could have created a legal dilemma for the agency, if I wanted, as we have a mutual agreement of separation. Of course, I don't want trouble for the agency and all is already resolved.

The Olympian removed all of her comments for the day after they had already shut down the thread. Needless to say, THEY wanted nothing to do with possible legals ramifications from a false statement, either.

So....to the point....The Olympian did the only thing they could sensibly do today. The moderator frankly stated that with her busy scedule, it was the simplest thing for her to do.

I agree.

Unfortunately I read less than 20-some of the comments before they were deleted.

Is anything going to happen to the person who attacked you, Larry? SOMEthing should-- she needs to learn that there are consequences for evil actions.

I'll leave that up to the CEO/Executive Director, who remains a dear friend of mine.

I've really said all I want to say about that individual, but I will speak (since the proverbial horse is out of the barn) about my leaving Big Brothers Big Sisters...

First, as I said...the CEO is a friend as well as my former boss. As with any organization, there were some challenges in terms of dealing with.....I say..."personalities". I felt I wasn't getting all the authority I should have, to go along with the responsibility that I was held to. This issue was outside of his and my relationship.

More importantly, we lost substantial government funding for a special program for foster kids. After losing three grant attempts, we were facing the possibility of having to cut the program due to lack of funding. I went to my boss and offered to be the "reduction in force" to keep the program alive and I felt that it might reduce so of the stress of the other issue.

I have excellent letters of recommendation from the CEO and a handful of Board Members, thus a very agreeable separation. I still consider myself a supporter of the program and already have planned my year end donation.

Today's actions, were of an individual that lost control. I cannot hold the entire organization responsible for the actions of one.

It was a perfect illustration, though, of the lengths that people will go to on the comments threads to hurt others, and an affirmation of why The Olympian is closing the thread so often.

Thanks for the creating a forum to discuss whatever comes to mind.

More or less, Ski.....

But I, like The Olympian, will not allow a free-for-all
